In reply to Ray Whitaker.

Dear Ray,

Thank you so much for your kind assessment of my post. In fact, it was just a post I made for a website called Admitopia where they asked me to advise teens who were considering going into the arts. I've already written to myself as a future Grandma not long ago. In this latest instance, I decided to write to my younger self as I thought it would be more sincere than trying to dish out advice to others.

I'm taken aback (in a good way) by the positive feedback (mostly on social media) I've gotten in response to this post. Maybe I should try to write on my blog more often. :-)

Wishing you the best,
Kristen

Dear Kristen-

I read and re-read your essay to your younger self... Found it interesting and vivid, touching and focused. Bravo! In the candor, the honesty, and the hindsight!

A friend recommended I read your essay and she was firm about my getting to it... I'm glad she did, my friend is a vividly interesting woman who is -among other avocations- a real artist.

I wonder if this was some sort of exercise for you, like a PhD assignment or something. Years ago I was a logistics supervisor for an adult educational course on Creativity, where a similar exercise was required. We had over 100 seminarians, ad I do not believe that any of them did as nice a job on it as you did.
