In Class/Homework: We are going to be making a Soundscape. This can be a narrative story that only uses sound, it can be abstract, it can be experimental, or it can be musical, or it can be a combination of all of these. [*If you are stuck for ideas, please do either a sound portrait of Thalun International School or a sound portrait of Yangon. Use a combination of sounds to make a listener understand what it is like in this environment. ]
In class you should start planning what you want to do. Get inspiration from artists, journalists, poets, musicians, etc. and start gathering and saving sound effects and music clips you think you will want to use in your piece. *Don’t forget to write down which sources you are using for your end credits. Next week we will go over how to record high quality voice-overs and how to add and mix your sounds using audio software.
Week 2
Today: Present ideas and play at least one collected sound. Introduction to the Soundscape Project.
Manipulating sound. Recording best practices.

Soundscapes Due. In-Class Critiques and Japanese sweets.
Week 7
Making Powtoons From SCRATCH With Original Music or Voice-overs.
Today we’ll start a new animation project where you will plan and create an original Powtoon from scratch that utilizes sound in an intelligent way.
Your options are: A.) Make a “How To” Video With Voice-over. *Teach us how to do something or educate us on something. B.) Make a Music Video for Original Music or a Soundscape YOU Created C.) Take Your Recent Soundscape Project and Add the Visuals.

For Students Not Attending Week Without Walls Field Trip This Week:
Today you can continue working on the animation project and plans due next week. I’ll be in the Multimedia Lab to help during normal class hours. You can also work on designing your own avatar either from a photo or by using an online builder.

Week 9
Today: Present your idea and plans to the class for the Powtoon Animation project. Go over the rubric and due date (Feb. 19 for grades 10,11, and 7 and Feb. 14 for grades 8 and 9). Work in class on your Powtoon.

Week 10
Today: Work in class on your Powtoon. Due at the START of next class. *BEFORE next class make sure to upload the finished PowToon as unlisted to YouTube (your channel or a friend’s). Then in Google Classroom please send me the YouTube link and your comments for the group blog post. Thanks!
Week 11
Today: Powtoon Animations Due at the START of class. Critiques.
Week 12
Today: Look at/critique final PowToon animations and polish up the group blog post. Digital illustration assignment: Create an illustration of yourself using a photo of yourself and the techniques from this cheat-sheet using GIMP. Make a new blog post with a few paragraphs about what you would most like to learn in the 3rd trimester, anything about you or your life right now, and use your illustration as the image. Due (as a draft blog post) at the end of next class.
